Pia Arnström lives and works in Leopoldstadt, a bohemian part of the Austrian capital. Her paintings often capture fleeting moments, conveying subtle feelings without prescribing an impression. She gives her audience space to interpret her art without knowing her inspiration, while also being ready the story she had in mind during the creative process for those interested. Nordic mythology has inspired some of her recent works, which includes a painting with Norse gods depicted as colourful parrots in the middle of conversation. This is among works that explore the parallels between the contemporary world and mythology, creating a connection between what she sees as parallel worlds. The interplay among contrasts such as light and shade also is a source of inspiration for Pia Arnström. She considers the unpainted parts of her paintings crucial, and her works hint at playful experimentation with contrasts of painted and unpainted areas with partially blank canvases creating an airy feeling. She recently started creating art using photography, using a small mirror and liquids such as milk and water to create images with unique perspectives.

Pia Arnström was born 1974 in Sundsvall, Sweden.
She studied painting at the Universität für Angewandte Kunst/Malerei under Prof. Adolf Frohner and Prof. Christian Ludwig Attersee between 2001 and 2006. She lives and works in Vienna
